The Big Journey

Let me explain “The Big Journey”

My AutumnRider journey is how and why I try and stay positive, no matter what is going on.

“The Big Journey” is about about a life that contains some elements of surprise as well as the weird and the wonderful.

It’s about the ups and downs. The “Who the fuck am I? ” moments. The amazing twists and turns. The tragedies. The battles. The contention. The breakthroughs. The wins. The losses.

The cognitive restructuring. Meaning how we sometimes have to throw our perspective of life up in the air, ego included, and allow a higher understanding to take its place. Then when the walls come crashing down whether we like it or not, a rebirth happens. Phoenix from the ashes.

Me? At seventy plus… I’ve been through many of them. Emotional. Spiritual. Psychological. Dragged to the bottom of the barrel, wiped out, even ready to jump at times. But I’ve stayed.

My pretty “rides” here aren’t really for leisure – they are in fact regulation for me. The movement may look like thrill, but it is integration of a deeper understanding of life. The joy isn’t naïveté – its chosen, deliberate, in full knowledge of the challenges I face.

The sunsets? They remind me that, whatever, I’m blessed to have this great life no matter its challenges, and have a duty to get out there and enjoy it to the full. And share it. So here I am.

Some videos now to share about my journey. Others journeys’ too. Thoughts, reflections, songs. Dig deep, don’t forget to come back once you’ve watched a video.

A Bikers Creed

Many men in our later years just try to get through the day with dignity and with peace.

And with a little heart and soul to raise our spirits.

I wrote this, inspired by the words of Desiderata, to remind us that despite verything, we’re human, with all our hopes and frailties.

It’s a blessing, a script, maybe even a creed for the men who are my men; the unsung heroes; something to call on when it gets a little dark or lonlely.

Thank you to Gwen for allowing me to use her piano recital “Knowing You Jesus”.

“The Dash”

Another thoughtful piece, this one inspired by my sister Christine, who recently lost her husband to dementia.

It’s reworked for a biker theme, based on the work called “The Dash” by Linda Ellis, marking that short time between one’s arrival and departure from this earth.

It holds the inspiration to make the time memorable, worthwhile, no matter how big the struggle.

The dash represents everything;

-how you treated people

-How you loved

-How you showed up

-What you stood for

-Whether you lived consciously or by default

In short; your lived values, not your lifespan
