Fails, Falls and How To

When you put an experienced seventy year old onto a huge bike and have total disregard for contact with anything hard, then the opportunities for adventure open right up.

I was visiting a friend in Newcastle, UK, and left my Goldwing in the alleyway as the garage was not available.

Next morning I found it on its side. When I checked the CCTV I was shocked to see how persistent they had been to steal it, but failed. Three times they vita and tried. More violence, more people.

It’s possible, but it’s not easy for one person to lift a downed bike when it weighs over 900lbs.

During many hours of slow riding practice I did this many times. I eventually decided to video one to show the process.

The secret is using thigh muscles to lever the bike up, pulling on handlebars and passenger grab rail. Having the steering tuned inwards makes it easier to. The final secret being able to swear a lot and have someone provide a cup of tea.
